When we talk about pets, the top four that come to our mind are Dogs, Cats, Fishes, and Birds. Almost 46.3 million residents of America own Dogs, 38.9 million-Cats, 12.6 million-Fishes, and 5.7 million-Birds. In this world of hustle and bustle pets are considered as the man’s best friend. It has been reported that pet owners have fewer chances to fall into depression. They unquestionably provide us companionship, give us a sense of responsibility, and play a vital role in our society.

Now, if we talk about the pet's side. The query to be solved is Do pets really understand Humans? Some affirm and some negate, but when we see it in more detail. We have seen that pets like dogs or cats were found to understand Humans. They might not understand Human language but they can recognize sounds and gestures.

“Pets have more love and compassion in them than most humans.” — Robert Wagner

Let’s persuade more on Top 4 pets of the World at an individual level:

  1. Dogs Understanding Humans:

It has been researched that Dogs have the ability to understand Human words. They can construct the special vocabulary from the words they can acknowledge. It has been said in the recent research made at Emory University that Dogs get more attentive when they hear novel words because of their will to act upon their owner’s command with full zeal and zest. Unlike, Humans that get less attentive to new words and more to the already heard.

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.” — Josh Billings

It is the belief of some people that how we speak? Matters more than what we speak? Dogs can understand Body language as well. Definitely, they can perceive visual clues more than words spoken, just like the case with Computer users, for them Graphical User Interface is more appealing than Command-line User Interface.

2. Cats Understanding Humans:

“Cats are connoisseurs of comfort.” — James Herriot

Same like Dogs, an Analyst from Tokyo University researched that Cats can recognize their owner’s voice. They can also read Human’s facial expressions, but this doesn’t mean that they feel for us. The more distinguishing traits of Cats is that they can judge Humans by their character and emotion, they can differentiate between the bad ones and good ones. Cats can recognize the mood of Human Beings, they keep their selves at a distance when they find a person is not in good mood.

Much more research is required regarding cat behavior or related to its understanding of the human species.

3. Fishes Understanding Humans:

According to a CNN report, Fishes can recognize human faces with 100% accuracy, they identify patterns. Fishes are considered an intelligent species, with very sharp memory. If we talk about their understanding of Human language words, this is not the case with Fishes. They might acknowledge Human’s gestures but they can’t process Human words.

“Fishes are friends, not food.” ― Finding Nemo

4. Birds Understanding Humans:

As we know that many birds like Parrots speak Human language words. But the question here is, do they also understand it or not? The answer to this is they don’t get a complete idea but they understand generically what they are talking about. Birds understand the emotions of Humans for them and respond to them in the same way. Birds have been seen monitoring humans with a keen eye, as the eyes are considered as the reflection of the soul, so they are the high observers.

“Parrots make great pets. They have more personality than goldfish.” — Chevy Chase

Conclusion:

I would like to conclude by saying that whether pets understand us or not we as the king of creatures should understand them. As John Grogan said:

“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”
